Ian Gilbert, Why do I Need a Teacher When I’ve Got the Internet?
“Is a broken down car parked?” (Ian Gilbert, TEDxDubai 10.10.09)
Gilbert’s Idea Worth Sharing
Thunks are about independent thinking and getting student’s to think for themselves.
Teaching is about developing your own thinking. Student brains have to be opened enough to solve problems. What are we doing to teach kids to think?
3 Parts to independent thinking: Technology, Education, Neuroscience.
Some neuroscience facts…It takes 20-30 years for the brain to mature. You can’t be older than your brain. There is a 2-3 year old spread in the brain of children.
There is a difference between thinking and knowing.
Call to Action
Education shift to focus on technology (example: tutorvista.com), education (thinking, thunks), and neuroscience
